The shape of the history of sports betting has changed dramatically during the last 50 years, from something was limited to horse racing events to the online competitive market we see today. This article will examine this movement studying the development in the sports betting market as well as report on the increasing marketing activity of companies that make an effort to make huge profits in the punter's misfortune! I will also point you inside the right direction in terms of being sure that the minefield of betting companies can be easily stepped through to make as much money that you can.

The first 'bookmakers' opened within the late 1800's with bets being taken at horse racing meetings through the entire UK only; towards start from the 1900's legislation was relaxed to ensure that people could behave as sportsbook bookies during this time. It wasn't until 1961 that bookmaker shops were legalised, and in a short time there were 15,000 (mostly independent) outlets in the country. These days there are around 9,000 outlets, with chain stores dominating industry (William Hill being the market industry leader) and independent companies becoming less popular with new customers.

Over the last 15 years the world wide web became a method for people to gamble on sports, but the interest in this was not great mainly because it was difficult to reach customers due to a ban on advertising of gambling, plus on account of network speeds for those with home PCs being very slow. In-play betting was certainly not achievable using the speeds on offer by telecommunication companies!

Popularity of sports betting amongst previous 'non-gamblers' increased hugely once the government lifted the widespread ban on advertising via the UK Gambling Act of 2005, which got into effect in September 2007. This opened the floodgates to companies to be able to advertise via the media and sponsorship deals which made it easier to get customers to know about the deals they are able to provide, which experts claim had become increasingly offered to customers via good Broadband access deals and faster speeds.

These days a few multitude of betting offers available, including introductory offers for new customers - please see my other articles for sboarena information about how to never get caught out by these reward schemes though. An increasing number of marketing schemes including money-back offers or no-lose bets can be found for regular customers via sites including Paddy Power and BetFred who will be on occasion quite pleased to require a loss on profits on certain events to take visitors to their website.
