These must be realistic but just above their current standards to give the class an incentive to try. As they achieve each goal 'raise the bar' again. Acknowledge publicly with the class each goal that is met and exceeded. These expectations should centre on academic, behavioural, industry and cooperation issues. The goals must be published and crossed off as each is achieved.

I sat mesmerized, listening to her story. I had never known anyone else to be as, depressed let alone, more, depressed than I was. "Most people don't really want to end their lives," Elizabeth continued, "they just want relief from the hurt and pain. Some see no other way out than drinking, gluttony, sleeping 14 hours a day, been there done that one, or becoming a sex, gambling, or shop-a-holic, been there done a couple of those too. I have certainly paid my respects to the porcelain goddess. I'd counsel clients all day. Lots of therapists have major issues and problems on the home front. Hell, I became a therapist, so I could acquire some tools to help myself.

Read these to give a background on each child. There may be issues of family problems, health or learning problems as well as academic results. You might also learn of some talent the student has to help engage him/her successfully in class work. Knowing these things about your students will help tailor the ways in which you react to a student's behaviour. (I had an horrific evening after I had admonished strongly a male student sent to me for disciplining. He disappeared from the school. I then found out from the teacher he was suicidal. Fortunately for me, all was well).

golden teacher The marriage ceremony was a nightmare for Mahana. All her neighbors showed up to eat free roast pig and tease her. Humiliated, she endured the ordeal with a wilting crown of flowers on her head. While the mocking crowd danced to Johnny's folly, the new couple quietly retreated to another island. Everyone, including the viewer, is left completely mystified.

golden teacher The next morning at the bridal auction Mahana was still sitting in the tree. Johnny Lingo bought her anyway, making island history in the process. "I will pay eight cows for your Mahana," Johnny tells her father.

"Mahana-you-ugly! Get out of that tree!" I was at a leadership development retreat when I heard this line from a campy, dated flick produced by the Mormon Church. The video was titled Johnny Lingo and it was based on a short story of the same name. Despite its unintentional political incorrectness, it was hard to dismiss the invaluable lessons it demonstrated.

golden teacher growkit In my situation, I always got into trouble in school for talking too much. In my workplaces, I always got into trouble for challenging the managerial systems, asking too many questions and trying to change things or fix things. Guess what I am doing today? Today, I get paid for doing all those things. What does this say about me? It says that I like challenge and change, short projects rather than long, drawn-out, repetitive work, talking to people, investigating and challenging systems. In other words, I am better suited to being a consultant. What about you? Who are you and what do you want? Find out who you are and match this to job characteristics that interest you.

I have learned the hard way that Depression and Despair are demanding, difficult but wonderful teachers; ergo the reason for capitalizing them. Depression is one way that our soul is endeavoring to reach out and help us. We become depressed when our life is out of balance and we are not 'doing' what we are supposed to be doing. We have gotten off track and lost our way.

golden teacher Everyone knows by the time they're in 3rd grade that it's golden teacher's pet who has the honor of cleaning the erasers, wiping down the blackboard, and replacing stubs with fresh, long white pieces of chock that felt amazingly smooth as your fingers slid lightly over their cool hardness as you placed them neatly in the chock tray. Mrs. Conroy smiled at me as she arranged the pages of each student's best cursive writing on the bulletin boards flanking both sides of the clean blackboard. We had everything in place for tomorrow. It would be a great day. And I was, indeed, a good girl who had learned the hard way to wiggle her toes a few months ago with the encouragement of the physical therapy heroes.

Our forefathers saw a lack of conscience in the British monarchy that ruled the colonies. So, they created chaos, the American Revolution. Then, they devised 10 rules with a handful of amendments to govern what became the greatest nation in the world. Each state was given free will (states' rights), and they tacked on dozens more rules in an attempt to get people to focus on that which is important in a given area and bring order to it. This free will led the states to split, more chaos. Then, Reconstruction brought order once again. Through it all, there are those who try to bring definition, understanding, and application of these rules so that societies can move forward.
