Frindle, Andrew Clements:Nick Allen once again gets his teacher upset and she assigns him to do an extra report on how new words are added to the dictionary. Suddenly this triggers the best idea ever for Nick. He coins his own new word "frindle." His new word annoys his teacher mightily. The war of words escalates--resulting in after-school detention, a home visit from the principal, national publicity, even money-making for local entrepreneurs, and, finally, the addition of frindle in the dictionary. Amazing!

Uses of Huxley (named after English Author & consciousness pioneer Aldous Huxley) are many. (Like Big Sur itself -- "The Land of Many Uses.") People might be hanging out or in Love and Huxley is a favorite place to snuggle and feel safe and free at all hours.

All of this interfered with my possibilities of actually getting one of these strange creatures to become what boys were meant to be, boyfriends. Would you give up your life if it meant that the rest of the world would live? My answer was yes. It was the lesson of compassion that I had learned from mankind's amazing teacher. It is often joked, tongue-in-cheek that you are only as good as your last accomplishment. That is the ultimate lie. We are not a collection of the things that we do, the sale that we make, or the goal that is conquered. You are the gift. You are the Golden Goose. The egg is just the last thing you created.

golden teacher Unfortunately, the school system at that time didn't provide any career guidance and so I made my choice based on very superficial data. In fact, when I look back on this decision, I can laugh at myself wholeheartedly. After all, I decided to become a teacher because I liked my uncle Jack. He was a school superintendent in Manitoba when I was growing up and I admired him. And, I wanted to earn a university degree because no one in my family had taken that route.

There is a distinct difference between the two. Bottom line is accents are played higher than taps. Drum teachers usually explain this by saying taps are all the inside notes, the low notes. Accents are taught to be played vertically. The common misconception is that accents and taps is just for marching drumlines, but it can also be played by drum kit drummers too. The benefit to playing drum music with proper stick heights is that it sounds and it looks good. One of the best books that could teach you how to play proper stick heights is Accents and Rebounds by George Lawrence Stone. Stone is well-known for his first book, Stick Control.

If you have to leave the class or event for some reason quietly apologize and go to the side and quietly leave the room if necessary. Do not wander about and distract or talk to people. And while we are at it. Shut off those cell phones. If you go back into the group, go to the back and quietly resume. Under no circumstances voice an opinion in a class or social instruction group. Do not voice an opinion in class. Try to focus on how this teacher can expand your dance and maybe social horizons. Do not compare openly to other teachers. Do not complain about how a movement is presented or that it is too difficult or easy.
