It is important to note here that it is much easier to 'loosen up' on discipline later than to tighten up at a later date.
The original source of course was Aesop, who told a tale with a moral core in The Goose that laid the golden egg. A man and his wife had the good fortune to possess a goose that laid a golden egg every day. For a while they were happy and lived well, but then they became impatient with how quickly they were accumulating their wealth. So they thought that if the goose could lay such a fine egg of gold, it must be lined with the precious metal. If they cut the goose open, they could get the gold all at once. Of course we all know what happened, the goose was just a goose and there was no gold inside.
golden teacher My English teacher was tall and desperately skinny with a long bony nose upon which rested a considerable pair of thick glasses. I was thirteen and didn't see any of that. What I saw was a frustrated poet who was teaching us the language by playing us haunting songs. In one lesson he introduced our young minds to the trio, Peter, Paul and Mary and their plaintive "Leaving on a Jet Plane". It was hard not to cry for all the world's farewells, right there, in class.
These give the student a face saving opportunity to back down when they realise they have gone too far. If they continue, then the situation has escalated and you need to invoke your school discipline code.
If you tested five new things every month and just one out of the five was successful (if you use our monthly teaching strategies it's more likely to be four out of five) then at the end of a year you would have twelve new proven teaching strategies to add to your mix. So testing and measuring all of your teaching is the first golden rule for motivating learners.
The emphasis on intent is important in tai chi because the use of strength is very different than other martial arts. Tai chi uses slow, soft force to deflect or divert an opponent's energy instead of meeting force with force. This allows time for your mind to contemplate the movement and imagine the movement in your mind before your muscles actually move.

So they thought that if the goose could lay such a fine egg of gold, it must be lined with the precious metal. If they cut the goose open, they could get the gold all at once. Of course we all know what happened, the goose was just a goose and there was no gold inside.
I think various researchers found Truth but think that that Truth is the only Truth and theirs is the best. (As various fundamentalist religions believe -- "our way is the only way"). I say Truth can come in many different packages. Love comes in many forms. "Spirit is Truth" and no one has a monopoly on Truth! So Science too must watch itself and not become a crystallized dogmatic form (attached to the dead past when the present is so alive with possibilities).
