golden teacher growkit "Mahana-you-ugly! Get out of that tree!" I was at a leadership development retreat when I heard this line from a campy, dated flick produced by the Mormon Church. The video was titled Johnny Lingo and it was based on a short story of the same name. Despite its unintentional political incorrectness, it was hard to dismiss the invaluable lessons it demonstrated.
What was most remarkable though, was that it wasn't my class. I was their substitute teacher. The transformation they experienced took place in a two week period. For the two years I subbed, this ritual of establishing respect and mutual worth had the same results--regardless of were it was applied. So-called troubled, hyper, or violent kids all rose to the expectation that they too, were worthy of being addressed and treated with respect. Was I a super teacher or psychological genius? Not by any stretch. I simply worked a principle. That's the great thing about principles; they work regardless of who uses them. Later in my career, I saw a memorable illustration of the power of positive expectations. It came from the story of a legendary trader with a comic strip name.
growkit golden teacher Working as an administrator, coach and teacher for over 30 years, I have seen some cases that would be unbelievable to the average person. I have also seen some parents that taught me a thing or two about how to behave when I became a parent, and I try to emulate those role models every day.
We heard the choir practicing during our visit. We read signs, graves and memorials - there's one of the original copies of the Magna Carta on view at the Cathedral too. A small aside: the Magna Carta room was closed when we got there - I resolve to PLAN these visits better next time! During the visit we walked and talked at the student's pace and to his agenda. Words were learned and questions asked (by both of us!).
growkit golden teacher Fulfill the Tao of Mankind, unite with the Tao of Heaven and follow the moral principles to restore the true self or soul. Learn to be loyal and trustworthy, act accordingly to benevolence and justice and hurry to establish these great virtues. Do not distinguish who is virtuous and who is slow. Do not differentiate male and female, the poor and the rich, right or wrong. A leader must have so broad a mind that it encompasses mountains and oceans. A real man must be flexible, tolerant and patient and never complain when crossing mountains and waters and endure the bad weather elements. Be cautious when hearing of praises, be happy when hearing of criticism and correct whatever is not good. Able to do all these, one can be acclaimed as a virtuous person who stands with Heaven.
Nowadays it is very easy to practise Tao as compared to ancient times. You need not suffer great difficulties or disasters although you run laboriously back and forth. When the time comes, the wise, the fool and the sage will be separated automatically.
golden teacher The spring water for the baths are from the property. Esselen Indians use to bathe in these waters hundreds of years ago. The water from the natural hot springs are pumped up from below the ground and are considered healing. I've seen people drink the water even though it has a slight smell like sulfur. Strangely as a kid when I use to melt sulfur and other stuff from my chemistry set I use to always get a cold after accidentally inhaling the fumes. But here I have only had good experiences at the baths -- no side effects at all from the sulfer, people even drink this water for health (I tried it twice).
When we first see Mahana--who is high in a tree, hiding behind its huge, tropical leaves--we're presented with a girl who's more ordinary than ugly,. Her father, though, saw only a hunched and timid burden, scared of her own shadow. He was afraid he wouldn't be able to marry her off. His advisor--an old man with outrageous hair--urged him to ask for three cows and hold out for two until he was sure Johnny would pay only one. "I'll be lucky to get a cow that gives sour milk in trade for her," her father laments to the elder.
Sometimes a famous teacher lectures in Huxley or at times someone plays the congo drum or there is a classically trained musician or teacher demonstrating his technique. One of my favorite classes was with the famous Cellist David Darling and Al Huang. Electricity wildly alive in the environment. Genius at play.
There is a distinct difference between the two. Bottom line is accents are played higher than taps. Drum teachers usually explain this by saying taps are all the inside notes, the low notes. Accents are taught to be played vertically. The common misconception is that accents and taps is just for marching drumlines, but it can also be played by drum kit drummers too. The benefit to playing drum music with proper stick heights is that it sounds and it looks good. One of the best books that could teach you how to play proper stick heights is Accents and Rebounds by George Lawrence Stone. Stone is well-known for his first book, Stick Control.
