Vikings attacked Tablada once more in 889 on the instigation of Kurayb ibn Khaldun of Seville. Abd al-Rahman I appointed his Umayyad kinsman Abd al-Malik ibn Umar ibn Marwan governor of Seville. Abd al-Rahman's progeny would, nevertheless, take up the title of caliph. However, the cognomen 'Híspalis' is because of its state of affairs, as it's built on pilings above marshy floor, so as not to yield to a sliding and unstable foundation. A 'golden age' of growth commenced in Seville, attributable to its being the only port awarded the royal monopoly for trade with the growing Spanish colonies in the Americas, and the influx of riches from them.
