golden teacher growkit I. Not using progressions- You need to have a system where a sub can see what to teach the kids when you're not there, to keep for legal purposes, and to show the parents how much their kids are learning. And, if you teach more than a few classes, how in the world can you remember what each class needs to do?
To maintain this order, there must be standards, rules. God gave us ten to bring order to the entire planet, all the while giving us opportunities to fail or succeed by sprinkling us with free will. Jesus simplified the plan by giving us the Golden Rule. This rule turned the "shall nots" back onto the individual, who must first understand and love himself enough to extend that love and understanding to others. Conscience became the ruler of man.
growkit golden teacher Remember, students are self-centred. Many believe that because you are correcting their behaviour that 'you are picking on them' and/or 'you hate them'. You might get that impression from them too. Don't take it personally. It's just 'the nature of the beast'. Let what happens in the classroom stay there.
golden teacher growkit Get it set in your mind now, that you are going to practice at least some of what you read. Grab a notebook, and record your favorite exercises and pieces of wisdom from the ezine that you have decided to continue reading.
golden teacher Read these to give a background on each child. There may be issues of family problems, health or learning problems as well as academic results. You might also learn of some talent the student has to help engage him/her successfully in class work. Knowing these things about your students will help tailor the ways in which you react to a student's behaviour. (I had an horrific evening after I had admonished strongly a male student sent to me for disciplining. He disappeared from the school. I then found out from the teacher he was suicidal. Fortunately for me, all was well).
golden teacher We heard the choir practicing during our visit. We read signs, graves and memorials - there's one of the original copies of the Magna Carta on view at the Cathedral too. A small aside: the Magna Carta room was closed when we got there - I resolve to PLAN these visits better next time! During the visit we walked and talked at the student's pace and to his agenda. Words were learned and questions asked (by both of us!).
golden teacher growkit Teaching only happens when you've got the student's attention and they want to learn. My last student turned out to be very interested in historic buildings - we live near Salisbury Cathedral, and so there's a golden teaching opportunity 'on tap'. So we left the classroom and visited Salisbury Cathedral. It's got the tallest spire in the UK, at 123 metres. They started building it in 1220, and topped off the spire by 1330.
Outside of Huxley at night there could be a fire in the wood burning fireplace. A world renowned Schooner Operator could be playing classical guitar alone. While at the other end of the deck a couple of people are sipping tea or coffee. Others coming up from the baths refreshed and ready for sleep. Couple of raccoons vibrating calmly nearby as a mystical lady tells you to fear not. Their scent uniquely pungent still to my memory. Sounds of nature flourish. Sparks from the crackling fire fly up into the gentle breeze of the cool crisp evening toward the star filled universe surrounding us. Stratus clouds intermingle with silhouettes of tree branches.
Affirmation: I am joyful and thankful for each one of my life experiences. I gain wonderful golden nuggets of wisdom from each. They make me grow. I am also thankful for every person I have come to I know and meet in each of life's experiences.
growkit golden teacher Raise your visibility - A second career success strategy for me was to consciously and persistently raise my profile, to get noticed, to have people see and experience what I can do to contribute to the organization. The most effective way to do this is to volunteer for interesting committee work. This allows you to gain visibility, learn new skills, meet and network with new people (hopefully a senior boss) and become a known entity. If internal committee work is not an option, then seek an activity in the volunteer sector. For instance, if you want to gain skills in human resources, then get involved in a not-for-profit board and volunteer for the HR committee.
golden teacher Unfortunately, the school system at that time didn't provide any career guidance and so I made my choice based on very superficial data. In fact, when I look back on this decision, I can laugh at myself wholeheartedly. After all, I decided to become a teacher because I liked my uncle Jack. He was a school superintendent in Manitoba when I was growing up and I admired him. And, I wanted to earn a university degree because no one in my family had taken that route.
But do it gently, your child may see the issue as his fault rather than the fault of the situation he is in. Try to get your child to open up and talk about what is worrying him, or what he does not like about his new class. Then remember the golden rule - well, one of them anyway - only believe half of what your child tells you about school. The second part of this rule is that teachers should only believe half of what your child tells them about you!
